I need to Pee...
When being introduced to Danny for the first time, take him in for an hour or so, then say, "outside, pee pee, poo poo" to indicate that the bathroom is outside. If not, he may not know what to do and may have an accident indoors.
Danny is pretty quiet when he needs to use the restroom. He doesn't bark, he doesn't scratch the door, however, he will give you clues to let you know he probably needs to potty:
He starts pacing back and forth.
He gets overexcited out of the blue and comes to you.
He may sit and stare down at you.
Separation anxiety
Do not leave Danny unattended. There needs to be at least one person home, or keep him in a crate if left alone.
If no one is home, he'll find something to chew on, like the remotes shown, which rest in pieces. Other things include table legs, toilet paper, laptop monitors, and anything that has a good chew, like hard plastic.
When he is around:
Children: OK
Cats: OK, though he wants to play with them and doesn't understand that the cat doesn't want to play.
Other dogs: OK, but for tiny breeds such as Yorkies, he thinks they are squirrels and may display hunting behaviors, so he might need a bit of monitoring. Also, he is not very vocal when he's hurt. If other dogs are aggressive towards him, he will stay quiet and will prefer to run away rather than make any noises.
People: He gets jumpy. He is usually nice at first, but then he gets very excited and starts jumping on them. Re-enforce "No jumping."
When you walk by someone, he tends to go behind them and smell them, which makes the person you're walking past feel uncomfortable. Even more so for people who are scared of dogs.
Home: Very curious, hardly barks, and typically just lays somewhere. He loves when you play tug-o-war with his toys.
Squirrels or outside animals: ...good luck. His retriever instincts kick in.
